Police Investigate Intent in Bullying Case That Left Central Jakarta Boy Electrocuted
Police are investigating the case of a six-year-old boy in Kramat, Central Jakarta, who was allegedly bullied by two teenagers and fell into a coma after being electrocuted. Police say the case has now reached the investigation stage.
“Indeed, in this case the victim’s family has filed a police report with us. We are currently processing the investigation,” said Kasat PPA-PPO Polres Jakpus Kompol Rita Oktavia on Thursday.
Based on preliminary investigations, the victim was playing with friends before the incident. Several of the victim’s friends then held his hands and feet.
“He was lifted and his feet were placed against the pole. However, we still cannot state whether these children knew the pole was electrified,” she revealed.
Police are currently probing the element of intent in the incident, specifically whether the perpetrators knew the pole carried an electric current.
“We are still looking into that. Whether it was intentional or not. Whether they knew the pole was electrified or did not know. That is what we are still investigating,” she said.
Previously, a six-year-old child in Kramat, Central Jakarta, was suspected of being a victim of bullying by two teenagers. The victim was reportedly rendered unconscious as a result of the perpetrators’ actions.
The victim’s grandmother, Linda Reselin, said her grandson was treated in hospital after being bullied. She said the victim was forced to approach an electricity pole until he was electrocuted.
“Now my grandson is conscious, but he is still afraid when meeting people,” Linda said, as reported by Antara on Wednesday.
Linda said the incident occurred on Sunday. Based on CCTV footage, two teenagers were seen taking the boy and pressing him against the electricity pole.
Unfortunately, the electricity pole located within the Kramat Pulo park area in Senen District, Central Jakarta, was leaking, causing the victim to be shocked, suffer convulsions, and then lose consciousness.
“I watched the CCTV in the park. It turns out the recording showed my grandson being persecuted by two individuals known by the initials LNG and RVN. My grandson was dragged and taken to a pole that apparently had an electric current, causing my grandson to be electrocuted,” she said.
The victim’s family has reported the case to the Central Jakarta Metro Police. The family is demanding that both perpetrators be taken into custody immediately.
