The Tanjungpinang Police Department, Riau Islands, is investigating a suspected case of a husband murdering and mutilating his own wife.

From the initial investigation, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tanjungpinang Police Department, AKP Wamilik Mabel, said the motive for the murder was allegedly resentment, as the husband had been frequently berated by his wife in their married life.

“The motive is resentment, towards his wife. It had been simmering for a long time,” said Wamilik when confirmed by CNNIndonesia.com on Thursday (February 26).

He explained that the suspect had hidden a plastic bag containing pieces of what is believed to be his wife’s body in a warehouse. The remains, he said, had been evacuated by police and analysed by the medical team at the Raja Ahmad Tabib Provincial Hospital in Riau Islands.

Further updated information will be provided by the Chief of Police of Tanjungpinang, Kombes Pol Indra Ranu Dikarta, in a press conference on Friday (February 27).

“Tomorrow it will be announced whether his wife was mutilated or not, as we are still waiting for information from the medical team at the hospital,” he said.

Previously, on Wednesday night (February 25), residents of the Bintan Permata Indah Ganet housing complex in Tanjungpinang were shocked by the discovery of a housewife, initialled H (56), found dead in her own home.

The victim was found with her body wrapped in a plastic bag and hidden in a warehouse. After the incident, officers from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tanjungpinang Police Department managed to arrest the victim’s husband, N (67).

N is said to have fled using a motorcycle to Tanjunguban Bintan to cross over to Batam. However, before he could cross over, police officers managed to arrest him.
