Police Investigate Fire at Four Cold Storage Warehouses in Pati
The Pati City Police Resort (Polresta) is currently investigating the cause of a major fire that razed four cold storage warehouses belonging to PT Dua Putra Utama Makmur on the Pati-Juwana Highway, Purworejo Village, Pati Regency, Central Java, on Saturday (6/6/2026).
Pati Police Chief, Inspector Windartono, revealed that the fire was first detected around 06:00 WIB. The report originated when company security personnel spotted plumes of smoke rising from the storage warehouses located at the rear of the factory complex.
“The fire occurred at 06:00 WIB after security officers received reports of smoke emerging from the storage warehouses at the back of the company complex,” Windartono stated in his briefing on Saturday night.
He added that security personnel initially attempted to extinguish the flames using portable fire extinguishers (APAR). However, the fire rapidly intensified due to the presence of flammable materials and thick smoke, which hindered access to the seat of the fire.
To combat the blaze, a large-scale joint task force was deployed, including one Armoured Water Cannon (AWC) unit from the Polresta Pati Samapta Unit and one AWC unit from Brimob Pati. Additionally, nine fire engines from the Pati and Rembang regencies were dispatched to the scene.
According to preliminary data, the affected area includes four cold storage buildings containing stocks of beef and chicken raw materials. Production areas containing stacks of cardboard and plastic materials were also reported completely destroyed by the fire.
At this stage, the police have not yet been able to confirm the exact cause of the fire. The Polresta Pati Inafis team is waiting for the building conditions to cool down before conducting a thorough crime scene investigation (TKP).
“We are still awaiting the results of the examination from the Central Java Regional Police Forensic Laboratory (Labfor). Currently, the building remains hot and the smoke inside the location is still quite thick,” explained Windartono.
Preliminary suspicions suggest the fire originated from one of the storage buildings on the eastern rear side of the complex. Meanwhile, the total material losses resulting from the incident are still undergoing an audit by the company’s management.
