Police are continuing their investigation into a fatal traffic accident that killed a tenth-grade student from SMAN 6 Jakarta in the Kebayoran Baru area of South Jakarta. The victim, identified by the initials NAEP, died after the motorcycle she was riding on fell and she was subsequently run over by a school bus.
According to the Head of Public Relations for the South Jakarta Metro Police, AKP Joko Adi, investigators are in the process of summoning witnesses to provide statements regarding the presence of the cable on the road. “Investigators from the South Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit have issued summonses to take statements on how the cable came to be there,” he said on Tuesday (23/6/2026).
Joko noted that statements have already been obtained from two witnesses. In addition to witness interviews, police are also gathering physical evidence related to the case. However, the victim’s family has not yet been questioned. “The victim’s family cannot be questioned yet as they are likely still in mourning,” he explained.
The motorcycle rider, who is the victim’s father, is also unable to provide a statement at this time as he is still receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in the crash. “The motorcycle rider is still being treated in hospital. The bus driver has been questioned, along with one person who was inside the bus,” Joko added.
The incident occurred in the early morning when the father was taking his daughter to school from their residence in the Ciledug area. According to Kebayoran Baru Sub-district Head Rachmat Mulyadi, the accident happened around 5:30 AM Western Indonesia Time on Jalan Lauser. As the motorcycle passed the location, its handlebars reportedly became entangled in a cable that was hanging low and protruding into the roadway, causing the rider to lose control and fall. The victim, who was riding pillion, fell and was tragically struck by a passing school bus.
