Jakarta (ANTARA) - South Tangerang Police are still investigating the discovery of a baby girl’s body on the steps of the Amalia Clinic in Jombang subdistrict, Pondok Aren district, South Tangerang, on Wednesday morning.

South Tangerang Police Chief AKBP Boy Jumalolo said the body of the female baby was first discovered at around 07:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) by two nurses from the local clinic.

“A baby was found deceased on the steps of the Amalia Clinic. The baby was female,” Boy said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Boy explained that the baby was believed to have been born shortly before being abandoned, as the infant’s physical condition still included the umbilical cord as well as traces of blood.

The incident was first discovered by a witness, a nurse at the scene. Upon finding the baby’s body lying on the clinic’s steps, the witness immediately reported the discovery to officers from the Pondok Aren Sector Police (Polsek).

Regarding the person who abandoned the baby, Boy revealed that police have identified a suspect. The individual is currently receiving medical treatment whilst undergoing intensive questioning by the investigating team.

“For the time being, the suspect who left the baby has been identified and is still receiving medical care, whilst also being questioned by officers,” Boy said.

Police continue to carry out in-depth investigation and gather evidence at the scene in order to complete the legal process related to the case.
