Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police are investigating the case of the discovery of the body of a one-day-old baby girl wrapped in a bag in a bin on Jalan Kelapa Gading, Haji Nawi Dalam, Gandaria Selatan, South Jakarta.

“A witness saw what appeared to be a suspicious object in the bin. When they looked, it was the body of a baby girl,” said Cilandak Police Chief, Kompol Gusprihatin Zen, to reporters in Jakarta, Thursday.

At that time, he continued, the witness was suspicious of the bag, so they poked the bag with a piece of wood. The discovery was made on Wednesday (25/2) at 16:48 WIB.

The baby was declared dead after being examined at a community health centre and Fatmawati Hospital. It was confirmed that the baby was one day old.

“Yes, she was dead, according to the results of the examination by the doctors at the community health centre and she was taken to Fatmawati Hospital,” he said.

Currently, the police are hunting for the perpetrator to be held accountable for the baby’s death. “As for the perpetrator, we are still investigating, we are still investigating the perpetrator,” he said.
