Police Investigate Death of Medical Intern in Lampung Guest House

Police are still investigating the cause of death of Muhammad Zulfikar, a 25-year-old medical intern found dead at the Sakinah guest house in Metro Pusat, Metro City, Lampung. The victim, a student in the Medical Professional Education Programme, was known to be undergoing a practical placement at Sukadana Hospital in East Lampung Regency. He was found lifeless on Tuesday evening, 21 July 2026. Metro Police Chief AKBP Hangga Utama Darmawan stated that investigators are still gathering information and evidence to determine the cause of the victim’s death. He urged the public not to speculate regarding circulating information. ‘This case is still under investigation. The team is working to collect facts at the scene,’ he said on Thursday, 23 July 2026. Hangga emphasised that investigators have not yet found any basis pointing towards a murder. All possibilities are being explored while awaiting the results of the investigation and medical examination. ‘There is no conclusion yet that points to a criminal act. We will provide updates after further investigation,’ he said. The victim was discovered after a colleague went to the accommodation, having been unable to reach Zulfikar by phone or text message. The colleague then sought help from the guest house keeper to check the room. Guest house keeper Hendri said they knocked on the door several times but received no response. After the door was opened, the victim was not found in bed. ‘When we checked the bathroom, the victim was already lying on the floor,’ Hendri said.
