Police Investigate Death of Doctor Allegedly Intimidated by Three North Central Timor Legislators
The North Central Timor (TTU) Police, part of the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police, are intensifying their investigation into the alleged intimidation of Dr Icha, who died after reportedly being intimidated by three members of the TTU Regional House of Representatives (DPRD). TTU Police Chief AKBP Eliana Papote stressed that the entire case handling process is being conducted professionally, objectively, and transparently, prioritising evidence and witness statements. “Today, the process of taking statements from witnesses is still ongoing. Investigators continue to work to gather facts to shed light on this incident. We will report the results of the witness examinations once the entire process is complete,” she said. The police chief explained that investigators will examine witnesses who were on duty with the victim at the Emergency Department on the day of the incident to complete the investigation. In addition, investigators are coordinating with Leona Hospital to obtain medical records regarding the health and psychological condition of Dr Icha during her treatment following the incident. The TTU Police will also summon the three members of the TTU Regional House of Representatives to seek clarification regarding the alleged intimidation of the late Dr Icha. “We are also coordinating with criminal law experts and psychologists to assess whether the alleged intimidation meets the elements of a criminal offence. Everything is being done based on facts and applicable legal provisions,” the Police Chief stated. Alongside the investigation, the TTU Police are prioritising preventive measures to maintain a conducive security and public order situation. “The police have approached the family of the deceased so that they entrust the handling of the case entirely to the police and do not take retaliatory actions,” she added. Coordination is also being carried out with the Chairperson of the TTU DPRD regarding the family’s report to the Honorary Board, as well as with the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) of TTU Regency to ascertain the development and response of the professional organisation to the incident. Furthermore, the TTU Police are communicating with community and youth organisations to prevent them from exploiting the issue as a basis for actions that could disrupt security.
