Police Investigate Connections in Stabbing Death of Dutch National at Kerobokan Villa
Investigators from Badung Police Resort are still delving into the possibility of any connections behind the stabbing that killed Dutch national RP at a villa in Banjar Anyar Kelod, Kerobokan Village, North Kuta Subdistrict. To date, police have not uncovered any links between the victim and the two suspected perpetrators who stormed his residence.
“We have not found any relationship or connection between the victim and the suspected perpetrators. We are still investigating that. We cannot yet conclude the motive,” said Badung Police Chief AKBP Joseph Edward Purba at the Badung Police Resort on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
Police have also not confirmed any specific issues between the victim and other parties prior to the incident. The current investigation is focused on gathering facts from the victim’s close associates, particularly his girlfriend PI (30), who witnessed the event directly.
“The investigation process is ongoing. Regarding any dialogue between the perpetrators and the victim, we are still probing through witness statements and CCTV evidence,” Joseph explained.
According to immigration data, the 49-year-old man had entered and exited Bali several times since 2022. The victim had been continuously residing on the Island of the Gods since 2024 and owned several business lines.
“In 2024, he was in Bali until the present, up to the incident yesterday. The victim is also known to have several businesses or enterprises in Bali; we are still investigating whether they are in property or otherwise,” he stated.
Victim Checks Electricity Token
The stabbing incident is said to have occurred suddenly while the victim and PI were about to leave the villa area on Monday night. Before the event, the victim, who lived in Villa Number 3, had walked to the end of the alley to check the electricity meter.
“At the time of the incident, the victim and his friend (his girlfriend) were walking with two dogs and wanted to check the electricity token at the end of the villa road. There is a parking area next to Villa Number 1. After checking the token and walking back in front of Villa Number 1, that’s where the incident happened,” he recounted.
Police suspect the perpetrators had been monitoring the victim’s movements. Based on initial tracing, the perpetrators entered the area, went to the end of the road towards a resident’s house, then turned back. The attack is believed to have been carried out when the victim was at the observed point.
The former Karangasem Police Chief stated that police have examined the victim’s girlfriend, PI. The witness, an Indonesian national, had only been living with the victim in the villa for about three days. According to her statement, there were no signs of threats or disputes beforehand.
“From the witness’s statement, this close friend of the victim, there were no problems beforehand. Whether on the road or at nightlife spots, there are no indications pointing there. That’s why this incident is very unpredictable or unexpected,” Joseph added.
