Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police are investigating a clash in the Jalan Tambak area of Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday morning that left two people injured and requiring hospital treatment.

Menteng Police Chief AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu explained that the incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. local time and began as a dispute between residents and a group of individuals occupying a vacant plot of land at the location.

“At around 10 o’clock this morning, a dispute occurred between residents and individuals who happened to be occupying the vacant land,” Braiel said in Jakarta on Sunday.

As a result of the incident, police took two injured victims to hospital for medical treatment. He confirmed there were no fatalities in the incident. “There were no fatalities. There are injuries and we have taken them to hospital for medical treatment as soon as possible,” he said.

Braiel stated that investigators are still looking into the exact cause of the clash and are gathering statements from several witnesses. In addition, police found buildings and vehicles on fire at the scene. However, investigators are still processing the crime scene to determine the objects that were burned and the cause of the fire.

“We will confirm again which objects were involved and immediately process the crime scene,” he said. Regarding the alleged perpetrators of the arson, Braiel stressed that the police cannot yet draw any conclusions as the investigation is ongoing. So far, police have detained three individuals for initial questioning and have not named any suspects. “We are still investigating. Please give us time and the opportunity to complete this investigation,” Braiel said.
