Police Investigate Cause of Waste Pile Fire in Pisangan, South Tangerang
A fire involving a pile of waste occurred in the Pisangan area, East Ciputat, South Tangerint (Tangsel). Police are currently investigating the cause of the blaze.
“Because this is intended for filling empty land, it consists of debris. There are also remains of wood, rubble, and dry waste. We cannot speculate; we are still in the process of investigating the cause of this fire,” stated the East Ciputat Police Chief, Commissioner Bambang Askar Sodiq, at the scene on Friday (4/9/2026).
Bambang suggested that extreme heat may be one of the reasons the fire recurred, noting that the intense weather likely caused flames to resurface within the debris.
“The scorching weather could also be a factor. The developer is conducting land infilling, and the debris used for this infilling is one of the reasons why the fire has reappeared,” Bambang explained.
Meanwhile, the Head of Operations for the South Tangerang Fire Department, Omay Komarudin, mentioned suspicions that someone may have intentionally burnt the waste or that cigarette butts may have been the cause. Omay has deferred the investigation to the police.
“The suspicion is whether someone disposed of cigarette butts or intentionally burnt the waste. Currently, reports are somewhat conflicting. The investigation moving forward falls under the jurisdiction of the police,” said Omay when met at the scene.
As previously reported, the fire broke out in the Pisangan area, East Ciputat. Flames continued to appear at the site.
On Jalan Tarumanegara, in front of the Pisangan Village Office, thick smoke was seen billowing around the location, spreading across the streets. A burnt smell was also noticeable in the vicinity, prompting local residents to wear masks. Firefighters were seen struggling to extinguish the blaze, with several fire engines deployed to the scene.
