Police Investigate Alleged Negligence in Case of Four Workers Dying in Water Tank

Police are still investigating a workplace accident at a multi-storey building project in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, which resulted in the deaths of four workers. Officers are now delving into allegations of negligence in the incident.

“Yes, negligence is being investigated,” said Jagakarsa Police Chief Kompol Nurma Dewi when contacted on Tuesday (7/4/2026).

Nurma stated that her team is currently examining several witnesses. From the foreman to the building owner, they are being asked for statements.

“The building owner will be scheduled soon. We’re still examining witnesses, including the foreman. They will be questioned later,” she said.

It was previously reported that the tragic event occurred on Friday (3/4/2026) around 10:00 WIB at a multi-storey building project on Jalan TB Simatupang RT 02 RW 02, Tanjung Barat Village, Jagakarsa Subdistrict, South Jakarta.

The incident began when the foreman instructed workers to drain a geloteng (clean water storage tank) measuring 6x3 metres located in the basement.

“Then, during the process of dismantling the cover, the victims fell into the geloteng hole and were initially rescued by their colleagues but without using safety equipment,” said Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police Kombes Budi Hermanto in his statement on Friday (3/4).

The four deceased victims were YN (31), M (61), TS (62), and MF (18). In addition, three other workers reported experiencing shortness of breath while assisting the victims. The three victims still receiving treatment at RS Polri Kramat Jati are Ujib (42), Ahmad Jaelani (37), and Sunar (63).
