Police Investigate Alleged Intimidation of Trader at Kramat Jati Wholesale Market

Police are investigating an alleged act of intimidation against a fruit trader at the Kramat Jati Wholesale Market in East Jakarta. The incident is suspected to have been carried out by a police officer stationed at the market.

“We have received information circulating on various social media platforms regarding this matter. Of course, we will investigate the truth of it, whether it is as reported on social media,” said Head of Public Relations for the East Jakarta Metro Police, Adjutant Commissioner Made Budi, on Friday (3/7).

Made confirmed that the police force will conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the facts. The process will involve examining all parties related to the incident. Investigators have scheduled examinations to take statements from both the trader involved and the police officer stationed at the location.

He confirmed that the member suspected of involvement is an officer assigned to the Kramat Jati Wholesale Market area. “We will ask for statements from the police officer on duty at the location and the trader regarding what the problem was. The member is indeed an officer and is assigned there,” Made explained.

To maintain objectivity, investigators will also take a statement from the trader who felt intimidated. This step is taken to ensure a balanced clarification and to obtain a complete explanation from both parties. Made stressed that the East Jakarta Metro Police are committed to promptly processing the matter according to applicable legal mechanisms if evidence of a violation within the police force is found.

The alleged intimidation began when a fruit trader named Sutrisno claimed he was treated harshly by an officer. The incident occurred while he was serving a buyer and arranging goods that had just been unloaded from a logistics vehicle into his stall. “Indeed, my goods were slightly forward. At that time, there was an enforcement operation, and I was called by the police post head. I said I would move them later because I had no staff and was in the middle of unloading,” Sutrisno said when met at the Kramat Jati Wholesale Market.

Sutrisno claimed he had explained the situation politely to the officer and promised to move his goods immediately after finishing with the buyer. However, the response he received was the opposite. “But instead, I was cursed at and called stubborn because I was considered to have been warned several times,” Sutrisno complained.
