JAKARTA - Police are investigating allegations of human trafficking offences (TPPO) in the case of a domestic worker (ART) who jumped to her death from the fourth floor of her employer’s boarding house in Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta.

The Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that police are also examining allegations of unlawful confinement.

“Investigators are still delving into the existing criminal allegations, with applicable articles including those related to confinement, TPPO, and exploitation of children,” Budi said in a written statement on Monday (27/4/2026).

No suspects have been named in this case.

It was previously reported that two female domestic workers, initials D (18) and R (30), jumped from the fourth floor of a boarding house in Bendungan Hilir on Wednesday night (22/4/2026).

The Head of Criminal Investigation at Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police Resort, AKBP Roby Heri Saputra, said that both ART jumped from the fourth floor around 11:00 p.m. WIB.

“After the two ART jumped, residents witnessed the incident. They were immediately helped by residents,” Roby told Kompas.com when contacted on Thursday (23/4/2026).

Residents then called an emergency ambulance so that both victims could receive immediate assistance.

However, D died after the incident. Meanwhile, R suffered a broken arm and was rushed to Mintohardjo Hospital.

D and R reportedly jumped in a desperate attempt to escape from the boarding house where they worked.

Another ART witness stated that D and R were unhappy working at the house because their employer was harsh.

“(The witness) didn’t say they were tortured, but (the employer) was harsh. Well, that harshness could be verbal, or it could be physical,” Roby explained.
