Police Investigate Alleged Drug Transaction Involving Officer in Matraman

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta East Metro Police are still conducting an in-depth investigation into the alleged drug transaction that occurred in the Matraman area, East Jakarta. The probe was initiated following the circulation of a video depicting narcotics transaction activities allegedly involving a rogue officer. “We are endeavouring to do so; the suspected perpetrators are still being investigated,” said Deputy Head of the Narcotics Investigation Unit of the Jakarta East Metro Police, AKP Suminto, when contacted in Jakarta on Friday. The video was first uploaded by the Instagram account lbj_jakarta and immediately drew public attention. In the footage, the alleged drug transaction practice is seen taking place openly in a residential neighbourhood. Suminto stated that his team is continuing the investigation to uncover the parties involved in the case. Based on preliminary tracing, the suspected perpetrators are not residents living around the scene of the incident (TKP). This has become one of the focuses of the investigation to identify a potentially wider network. “The perpetrators do not live at the scene of the incident (TKP); for now, it is still under investigation,” Suminto said. The police urge the public to actively participate by reporting any suspicious activities related to narcotics distribution in their surroundings.
