Police Investigate Alleged Chicken Theft and Fatal Mob Attack in Tabanan
Police are conducting a thorough investigation into an alleged chicken theft in Banjar Juwuk Legi, Batunya Village, Baturiti District, Tabanan, which occurred on Friday (24/7/2026) in the early hours. The incident was accompanied by a mob attack on the suspected thief, resulting in his death.
Baturiti Police Chief Kompol Nyoman Darsana stated on Sunday (26/7/2026) that investigators are currently examining two main aspects of the case: the alleged theft of poultry and the subsequent mob action. “The investigation is being handled professionally to uncover the entire sequence of events based on facts and evidence,” he said, adding that the entire process is being conducted in accordance with legal provisions, prioritising professional, objective, and transparent principles.
Upon receiving the report, Baturiti Police personnel immediately went to the location to secure the situation, conduct a crime scene investigation, collect evidence, and take statements from several witnesses. The police have also appealed to the public to remain calm and refrain from vigilante actions if they discover or witness a suspected crime. “The public is urged to immediately report any incident to the police so that it can be handled according to legal mechanisms, ensuring public safety and order are maintained,” Darsana stressed.
Meanwhile, narratives have circulated on social media claiming that a perpetrator has been detained or placed on a wanted list. Tabanan Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Made Teddy Satria Permana stated that these narratives are untrue. “No one has been detained yet. The case is still under investigation. Please give us time as we are still examining witnesses,” he explained.
It was previously reported that a man from Sidatapa Village, Buleleng, with the initials KD, was attacked by a mob after allegedly stealing a chicken belonging to a resident of Banjar Juwuk Legi, Batunya Village, Baturiti District, in the early hours of Friday (24/7/2026). His actions were discovered by residents, and he was beaten to death at the scene. The motorcycle he was riding was also set on fire.
