Police investigate 12 students
TANGERANG (JP): Police are investigating twelve college
students alleged to have helped workers of PT Ganda Guna
Indonesia, who are seeking meal and transportation allowances.
The students were rounded up by police when they joined
hundreds of the factory's employees in staging a demonstration
within the factory compound in the Pasar Kemis subdistrict,
Tangerang, yesterday.
Tangerang police chief Hari Setyabudhi told reporters covering
the incident that the students had not been arrested. "They are
only under investigation in connection with their involvement in
the demonstration."
One of the workers said they were demanding that the factory
give them a daily meal allowance of Rp 1000 and a transport
allowance of Rp 500. "The demands were actually submitted almost
a year ago but the factory management has simply ignored them. We
had no choice but to stage a demonstration."(bas)
