Police Intercept Santri Burn Victims at Lombok Airport Before Denny Sumargo Podcast Appearance
Ahmad Deven Ramdan (14) and the family of Sahid Al Hudri (14) were intercepted by police at Zainuddin Abdul Majid International Airport (BIZAM) in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Deven and Al are victims of a burning incident perpetrated by a friend at the Rosudatussaulatiyah Al Ibrahimy Islamic Boarding School in Central Lombok on 13 December 2025. Deven and Al’s family were stopped by police as they were about to depart for Jakarta to attend a podcast invitation from Denny Sumargo. They ultimately cancelled the trip due to the victims’ health conditions and the ongoing legal process.
Joko Jumadi, Chairman of the Mataram Child Protection Agency (LPA), confirmed the incident. However, Joko stressed that his team was not at the airport during the interception. Joko is the legal representative for both victims. “Firstly, my team was neither at the hospital nor at the airport,” Joko said when confirmed on Wednesday (8/7/2026).
Joko said he had previously received a call from someone in Jakarta some time ago to attend a podcast, but he refused at the time because the victims were still undergoing treatment in hospital. Joko also informed the person that the victims’ medical treatment was being covered by the NTB Police Chief, Inspector General Kalingga Rendra Raharja. He directed the person to seek permission directly from the Police Chief. “The treatment at the hospital is the responsibility of the Police Chief. So, if you want permission, ask the Police Chief directly, who has been assisting with the hospital treatment,” Joko added.
However, Joko suddenly received news that certain parties had come to the hospital and invited the victims and their families to go to Jakarta. Joko admitted he received no official confirmation from the victims’ families regarding the departure. “There were parties who invited Devin’s mother and Al’s mother to go to Jakarta. There was no confirmation to us,” Joko said. According to him, the NTB Regional Police intercepted their departure to Jakarta because the victims are still undergoing intensive care at Bhayangkara Hospital, facilitated by the NTB Police Chief. Furthermore, developments in the legal process for this case will be announced after a case review tomorrow.
“So, it’s not a ban. This case is still in process, the victims are also still undergoing recovery. How could a child still in hospital suddenly be taken to Jakarta like that,” Joko stated. He added that almost all the needs of the two victims have now been met, from medical expenses and education to the mental recovery process. “The assistance we are providing is now underway, and tomorrow the suspect will be named,” Joko revealed.
It is known that three students were allegedly burned by a friend, resulting in one fatality. The case of the alleged burning of three students at the Rosudatussaulatiyah Al Ibrahimy Islamic Boarding School in Central Lombok came to light after a video of the victim circulated and went viral on social media. The incident occurred in December 2025. Previously, the Central Lombok Police Criminal Investigation Unit had elevated the status of the alleged burning case involving three students to the investigation stage. Police are about to name a suspect in the case. “We have carried out all the legal process activities for the investigation and, God willing, on Thursday a case review will be held. From that case review, God willing, a suspect will be named,” said NTB Police Chief Inspector General Kalingga Rendra Raharja on Tuesday (7/7).
