The Criminal Investigation Unit of Pelalawan Police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted two trucks suspected of carrying illegally logged timber on the Bono Highway in Lubuk Mas Village, Bunut District, Pelalawan Regency. Two suspects were arrested during the operation, including the owner of the trucks, identified only as P, a resident of Pekanbaru. One truck driver fled the scene upon interception, abandoning his vehicle, while the other driver was apprehended without resistance. According to Pelalawan Police Chief AKBP John Louis Letedara, initial interrogation revealed that the 12 cubic metres of processed timber were transported from the Sidar Bridge area in Teluk Meranti District without any valid ownership or transport documents. The driver claimed he was acting on the orders of P, who was later arrested when he arrived at the Bunut Police Station to inquire about his seized vehicles. Police confiscated two trucks, with registration numbers BM-8113-TY and BM-9750-CJ, along with the illegal timber. The suspects are charged under Article 12 letter e in conjunction with Article 83 paragraph (1) letter b of Law Number 6 of 2023 on Job Creation, and Article 20 letters a and c of the Criminal Code. Both suspects are currently detained at Pelalawan Police Station for further investigation.
