The incident occurred during a wedding celebration in Gang Seruni, Yukum Jaya Village, Terbanggi Besar District, Central Lampung, on Tuesday (2/06/2026). The ensuing unrest was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media.

In the circulating footage, a crowd of residents can be seen surrounding officers who were attempting to carry out the arrest. The situation escalated into physical altercations and pushing amidst the wedding festivities.

Central Lampung Police Chief, AKBP Charles Pandapotan Tampubolon, confirmed the attempt to arrest a fugitive wanted for robbery who had been long sought by the police. “The perpetrator is a recidivist in robbery cases who has been a long-term target of our search. When officers received information regarding his presence at that location, they immediately moved to perform the arrest,” said Charles.

However, the arrest process did not go smoothly. According to Charles, several residents and the perpetrator’s family actively obstructed the officers in the line of duty. “Some members of the public obstructed the arrest process. Officers were even attacked with thrown stones and chairs, which allowed the perpetrator to escape,” he stated.

As a result of the attack, several police officers sustained injuries from being hit by thrown objects.

Charles explained that the fugitive was a suspect in a robbery case involving sharp weapons. The police have secured evidence of the perpetrator’s involvement, including CCTV footage that strengthens the investigation. “The perpetrator committed his crimes using sharp weapons. CCTV evidence is available, and we have been searching for him for a long time,” he clarified.

Despite being surrounded by officers, the perpetrator managed to flee by exploiting the chaos at the wedding venue.
