Jakarta – The Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate implemented traffic management measures during the Nusantara Lunar New Year procession held at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday as part of the National Lunar New Year celebration.

“Road closures are situational in nature and traffic flow closures are only conducted during the procession sequence,” said Kompol Robby Hefados, Head of Operational Development at the Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate, in a statement on Saturday.

Robby explained that the traffic directorate has worked to ensure the procession does not disrupt traffic flow. “If it does cause disruption, we will assist in facilitating or temporarily diverting traffic flow. Once the procession has passed, we can normalise the routes,” he said.

Based on information gathered through the Instagram account @imlekfestival, the Lunar New Year Parade route will be diverted from Harmoni and Pecenongan directions and turned back after Juanda Station, whilst routes from Gunung Sahari and Senen will be completely closed.

The Nusantara Lunar New Year Parade will feature Mounted Police and Female Officers, decorated floats and art troupes, dragon and lion dances, drum bands and Jakarta cultural performers, traditional percussion ensembles, martial arts demonstrations, traditional horse dances, and ondel-ondel puppets.

The Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate deployed approximately 150 traffic personnel and around 600 regional personnel to secure traffic during the National Lunar New Year celebration peak at Lapangan Banteng.

“We have prepared security with approximately 150 traffic personnel,” said Kompol Robby Hefados. Regional personnel from across the jurisdiction number approximately 600 personnel, ensuring comprehensive security measures are implemented properly.

Imlek Festival 2577 – Harmoni Imlek Nusantara, the inaugural festival, runs from 17 February to 3 March 2026 at Lapangan Banteng, Jakarta, with the tagline “Nusantara Harmony.”

The Lunar New Year festival, coinciding with the holy month of Ramadhan, is intended to serve as a space for interfaith reflection and community engagement.

The festival features several programmes including a Lantern Festival, culinary market, arts and crafts exhibitions, an open-air museum showcasing Sino-Indonesian cultural integration, free health check-ups, and film installations ranging from “Jumbo” to “Rainbow on Mars.”

At the celebration peak, the event features mass lion and dragon dance performances, traditional music and dance performances, national artist performances, and symbolic representations of national harmony and unity.
