Garut (ANTARA) — The Garut Police have implemented a one-way traffic system to ease the congestion of vehicles heading from Garut’s tourist destinations and urban areas toward Bandung, West Java, during the long weekend holiday and ahead of Lunar New Year on Sunday.

Head of the Traffic Regulation, Guard, Escort, and Patrol Unit at the Garut Police Traffic Division, Adj. Insp. M Adi Kurniawan, confirmed the heavy vehicle congestion on the route from Garut city toward Bandung, prompting the implementation of a one-way flow system.

“There was congestion stretching 5 kilometers, but it has been resolved through the one-way flow procedure,” he said.

He noted that during the long weekend and ahead of Lunar New Year, heavy traffic was observed both on tourist routes and the main Bandung-Garut highway. A number of police personnel, he said, have been stationed at every intersection and along several road sections including Tarogong Kaler, Tutugan Leles, Kadungora, and up to the Bandung border area.

“Today many people are going on recreational trips and pilgrimages,” he said.

He added that traffic flowing in the opposite direction from Bandung toward Garut has been diverted to the Kadungora bypass and Leles bypass routes. Vehicles from Bandung, he said, are also being rerouted to Jalan KH Anwar Musaddad, then onto Jalan Suherman, Tarogong, and Garut’s urban area.

During the implementation of one-way traffic on the main Garut-Bandung road, police personnel are closing off every road intersection to ensure traffic safety and smooth flow.
