Police Identify Suspects in School Weapons Case Through DNA
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police are identifying the perpetrator who entered or had contact with a room suspected of being used to store weapons at a school in South Jakarta through DNA test samples.
Kanit Krimum of the South Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Ipda Alpino de Tech, stated on Monday that DNA samples from three rooms have been taken to ascertain who entered or was contaminated within those spaces.
Officers have collected all DNA samples from the three rooms to determine who had been present or had contact inside. The three rooms are the former office of the Foundation Chairman, the Secretary’s office, and the Foundation’s Facilities and Infrastructure room.
He explained that this examination is part of the investigation process to find out who entered the weapon storage room.
Alpino also clarified the term used for the location, stating it is not a bunker but rather a basement connected to other rooms. “It is actually not a bunker, it is a basement that is connected to a room. So the basement has stairs connecting to the room, that has also been checked,” he said.
Police have also inspected the basement area to ensure there were no other findings. However, Alpino stated that nothing else was found at the location referred to as a bunker.
In addition to examining the rooms, police also checked for the presence of CCTV cameras at the location. The result was that no CCTV cameras were found in the area.
Meanwhile, after the inspection and crime scene processing were completed, the foundation has been allowed to resume activities at the school after it was declared sterile. “We have confirmed with the acting Chairman of the Foundation and their legal counsel, the foundation stated it was sufficient and they can resume their activities now,” he said.
The National Police’s Forensic Laboratory Centre team took 30 items from the crime scene at the school in the Pondok Pinang area, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, where the airsoft guns were found.
