Police Identify Suspect in Jakarta Elementary School Bomb Threat
The police have identified the suspected perpetrator of a bomb threat at SDN Srengseng Sawah 15, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Monday (13/7/2026). The threat was delivered via a WhatsApp message to teachers and administrative staff.
“We have already identified the identity. So, we are searching and everything will certainly be followed up on the perpetrator,” said Jagakarsa Police Chief Kompol Nurma Dewi.
Nurma stated that the threatening message claimed bombs had been planted at 11 locations within the school. The teachers immediately contacted the police to secure the school, which was conducting the first day of the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS).
“So, everything is automatic. Inafis, the fire brigade, the sub-district head, the ward head, the Health Agency, and the Education Agency came to the school to ensure the safety of the children and the parents present,” Nurma said.
Following a sweep lasting more than two hours, authorities confirmed that no suspicious objects had been found. “For now, there is nothing. However, the Gegana team is still working. We will wait for further developments. Let us pray that nothing unwanted happens,” she added.
The police conducted the search at SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi on the first day of the MPLS programme. Nurma reported that the police received the report at 07:30 WIB, at which time students and teachers were holding a flag ceremony. The threat had circulated among the teachers before they decided to report it. Nurma added that all teachers and students had been evacuated from the school.
Observations at the scene showed Brimob personnel guarding the inside of the school carrying firearms, alongside two Gegana tactical vehicles. Officers from the Jakarta Transportation Agency and the Fire and Rescue Agency were also on standby around the location.
