Police Identify Suspect in Assault of UIN Suska Student, Citing Rejected Love as Motive
Police have identified that Raihan Mufazzar, aged 21, assaulted and attacked a female student at UIN Suska Riau, identified as FAP (23), because his romantic advances were rejected.
“The victim and perpetrator knew each other. So the perpetrator deliberately had the intention to assault the victim,” said Head of Criminal Investigation Division at Pekanbaru Police Station AKP Anggi Rian on Thursday (26/2), as cited from detikSumut.
Preliminary investigation at Bina Widya Police Station revealed that the attack was motivated by a romantic matter. The perpetrator could not accept that his romantic advances were rejected by the victim.
“The preliminary motive is rejected love. The perpetrator deliberately came from home intending to target the victim, which is why he brought a cleaver and a machete. However, he only used the cleaver,” said Anggi Rian.
The suspect is currently in police custody.
In addition to intensive questioning of the perpetrator, police also plan to conduct a urine test. This includes bringing the perpetrator to a psychiatrist at a mental health hospital to determine the perpetrator’s mental state in relation to the assault.
“We are currently conducting investigation. However, we also plan to bring him to a psychiatrist and conduct a urine test to assess the perpetrator’s psychological condition,” he said.
Meanwhile, as a result of the assault on campus, the victim sustained injuries to her head and hands.
The victim was assaulted by the perpetrator whilst she was waiting for a hearing at her campus. When the perpetrator met the victim, he immediately attacked her with a sharp weapon that he had brought.
The victim fell to the ground, with blood scattered on the floor. Fortunately, the victim was quickly rescued and the perpetrator was apprehended by campus security personnel.
