Police Identify Shooter in Bali Nightclub Incident That Injured Foreign National

A shooting incident occurred at a nightclub on Jalan Pantai Berawa, Badung, in the early hours of Friday (17/7), resulting in two patrons being hospitalised with gunshot wounds following a brawl involving other guests. Badung Police Chief AKBP Joseph Edward Purba confirmed the incident involving a firearm, stating that his team had acted swiftly and the perpetrator had been identified through CCTV footage obtained by the police. He also confirmed that two patrons sustained injuries suspected to be from gunfire. “The incident is now being handled by the Badung Police Criminal Investigation Unit after management reported alleged criminal acts related to firearms, ammunition, explosives, and other weapons, as well as assault,” he said. Based on police report number LP/B/173/VII/2026/SPKT/POLRES BADUNG/POLDA BALI dated 17 July 2026, the incident was first discovered around 2.00 a.m. local time. The Badung Police Chief immediately went to the location with his team. The crime scene investigation was led directly by Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Azarul Ahmad, North Kuta Police Chief Kompol I Ketut Sukadana, and other investigators. The case came to light when the complainant, venue manager Gusti Bagus Tri Bayurajeskana, received a call from The Shady Pig’s Assistant Manager, Kadek Roy Sumarsana, reporting a brawl inside the nightclub accompanied by the sound of gunfire. The complainant, who was nearby, arrived at The Shady Pig around 2.30 a.m. and immediately reviewed the CCTV footage. The footage showed a brawl in the DJ booth area involving a patron named Hamed SH and a man named Alex Don near the DJ location at sofa table 4. Two bystanders, who appeared not to be involved in the altercation and were believed to be trying to break up the fight, were struck by stray bullets. Hotel staff and other patrons evacuated the victims to hospital. The first victim was identified as I Made Yudhi Madyastawan, 32, a local resident, who sustained a wound to his left thigh. The second victim was a Chinese national, Almehdi Ajouad, 25, who suffered a knee injury. Police have questioned several witnesses and are studying the CCTV footage. Based on witness accounts and the recordings, the suspect is strongly believed to be a man with the initials Hmd. Police are currently pursuing the suspect and expect to make an arrest soon.
