Police Identify Four Suspects in Acid Attack on KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus, but Yet to Make Arrests
JAKARTA — Police have identified four individuals involved in the acid attack against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, a civil society human rights organisation.
Kombes Pol Iman Imanudin, Director of General Criminal Investigation at Metro Jaya Police, stated that the faces of all four suspects have been captured on multiple CCTV cameras along the route where the incident occurred.
“Most of the CCTV cameras installed across Jakarta have sufficiently high resolution, so at several locations we were able to obtain fairly clear images,” Iman told journalists on Monday, 16 March 2026.
However, police have not yet made arrests as they continue gathering evidence. “To date we have not undertaken any coercive measures. We are still gathering legal facts based on CCTV analysis and communication network data we have obtained,” Iman said.
Police are currently awaiting laboratory results from tests on the victim’s clothing and helmet, as well as the helmet and fluid container carried by the suspects.
“We very much hope that the forensic laboratory results will yield fingerprints from the perpetrators, and hopefully also DNA from the perpetrators that may be present on the helmet in question,” Iman stated.
Irjen Pol Asep Edi Suheri, Metro Jaya Police Chief, said his office would provide updates on case progress in the coming days. “We will inform you again of developments in this matter periodically within approximately one to two days,” Asep said.
According to witness accounts and CCTV evidence, two suspects riding what is believed to be a Honda Beat motorcycle from the 2016-2021 model range approached the victim from the opposite direction on Jalan Talang (Talang Bridge).
The first suspect, who acted as the driver, wore a white-blue combination T-shirt, dark trousers believed to be denim, and a black helmet. The second suspect, seated behind, wore a black buff-style face covering that covered approximately half the face, a dark blue T-shirt, and blue trousers rolled up to knee length and believed to be denim.
One of the suspects then sprayed acid towards the victim, striking multiple parts of the victim’s body. Andrie sustained burns to both hands, face, chest, and eyes.
