The Traffic Directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police is following up on a viral video showing several cars performing dangerous zig-zag maneuvers on the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu Toll Road, known as the Becakayu, in East Jakarta. The incident was recorded by a resident and posted on the Instagram account @dashcamindonesia. The footage shows at least five vehicles moving in tandem, weaving in a zig-zag pattern on a relatively quiet section near Kalimalang.

AKBP Reiki Indra Brata Manggala, head of the PJR unit of the Ditlantas of Metro Jaya Police, confirmed that authorities have conducted investigations using surveillance camera footage at the scene. “We have identified the vehicles via CCTV and have data matching the registered licence plate numbers,” he said when contacted on Friday (6 March 2026).

Brata explained that as an initial step, officers will visit the addresses of the identified owners to issue warnings. The police are adopting a persuasive but firm approach to deter such behaviour. “We will issue verbal warnings and provide guidance that is educational for the drivers,” he added.

Brata lamented the convoy’s actions as highly risky and capable of causing traffic accidents. Even though the road was relatively quiet at the time, zig-zagging on a tolled road remains categorised as a violation that disrupts public comfort and safety. “Our hope is that this incident does not recur, because it can disturb other road users and endanger other motorists,” he stressed.

From 1 April, Becakayu toll users will be charged tolls. The toll rate starts at Rp10,500 for Class I on the nearest route, rising to Rp28,500 for the farthest route.

This tolled expressway is also expected to improve the flow of freight traffic heading towards Bekasi, Karawang, Cibitung, and surrounding areas.
