Police Hunt Suspects in Two Machete Assaults in Mataram
Sharp-weapon assaults have again occurred on the streets of Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). Police are now searching for suspects in two incidents that took place in the early hours of Sunday (25 October).
Mataram Police spokesperson Iptu Edy Sutrisno said the assaults occurred on Sriwijaya Road and Udayana Road.
“We have received the reports. Investigations are under way to identify the perpetrators in both cases,” Edy said on Monday (26 October 2026).
The incident on Sriwijaya Road took place at around midnight Central Indonesian Time. The victim was travelling along Majapahit Road on a motorbike with a friend.
A motorbike carrying three people suddenly approached, and its occupants attacked the victim, swinging a sharp weapon at them.
“The victim sustained a slash wound to the waist and is now receiving treatment at Narmada Hospital,” he said.
The Mataram Police Sector Criminal Investigation Unit is handling the case. Police are still collecting witness statements and evidence to establish the suspects’ identities.
“We are still gathering witness statements and evidence to identify the suspected perpetrators,” he said.
The assault on Udayana Road occurred at around 4am. There were three victims, identified by the initials FAH, GL and GB, travelling together on one motorbike.
“GL was riding, FAH was in the middle, and GB was sitting at the back,” he said.
As they passed the scene, a suspected perpetrator reportedly approached their motorbike. The rider then instinctively swerved, causing the motorbike to fall.
During the incident, the suspect allegedly attacked FAH with a sharp weapon, injuring the victim and necessitating an immediate trip to hospital.
“According to the complainant, the three of them were out for a ride. On the way, they were stopped by the suspect, who then allegedly attacked them with a sharp weapon,” he said.
Edy said police were continuing to investigate both cases. He urged the public to remain calm and leave the handling of the cases to the police.
