The Duren Sawit Police are still pursuing one suspect in a motorcycle theft case who fled after stealing a vehicle belonging to an online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver on Jalan Raya Kalimalang, East Jakarta. “One perpetrator is still being sought; his role was as the rider of the motorcycle. We are still searching for this fugitive, identified by the initials SY,” said Duren Sawit Police Chief Commissioner Sutikno on Wednesday. He stated that the incident occurred in May 2026 on Jalan Raya Kalimalang. The theft took place during the daytime, when the ojol driver’s motorcycle was parked by the roadside. “Once again, the same method was used: a letter T key was inserted into the ignition of the parked motorcycle and then the engine was started,” Sutikno explained. However, the theft was spotted by a resident who immediately shouted for help. The shouts were heard by members of the Duren Sawit Criminal Investigation Unit who were on guard in the Pangkalan Jati area. “When the officers, residents, and fellow ojol drivers heard the shouts, they immediately gave chase. One suspect, with the initials OM, was successfully apprehended,” he said. According to preliminary examination results, the suspect claimed to have committed motorcycle theft only once. Investigators are still probing the statement to determine whether the two suspects had been involved in similar crimes previously. In addition to arresting one suspect, the police also recovered the victim’s motorcycle, which he used to earn a daily living. “The motorcycle was used by the victim to make a living. We returned it to the owner yesterday, with the condition that it must be presented if required during court proceedings,” Sutikno stated.
