Police hunt suspect in alleged rape of disabled woman in South Jakarta

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police are hunting a suspect who allegedly raped a disabled woman, identified by the initials DH (25), resulting in her pregnancy in Srengseng Sawah, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. “We are searching for the perpetrator. The one wearing a cap, we are looking for him,” said Jagakarsa Police Chief, Kompol Nurma Dewi, to reporters in Jakarta on Monday. Nurma said her team had examined CCTV footage. However, neither the neighbourhood unit (RT) nor the community unit (RW) officials recognised the man suspected of committing the rape. Furthermore, the victim is speech-impaired, limiting her ability to provide details about the perpetrator’s characteristics. In July 2026, the victim was known to have given birth to a baby. However, because she was unable to care for the baby, her father, who works as an online motorcycle taxi driver, subsequently handed the child over to the Social Services. “I received information directly from the victim’s father that the baby had been placed with or handed over to the Social Services. Yes, yesterday after she gave birth,” Nurma said. Previously, a post went viral on the Instagram social media account @jagakarsa_update, stating that a disabled person was suspected of being a victim of rape, which resulted in her pregnancy. On 30 March 2026, the victim attempted to file a report but was hindered by the cost of a medical examination. Eventually, on 5 April 2026, her family resubmitted the report. On 2 June 2026, the victim gave birth to a baby boy at Aulia Jagakarsa Hospital. The rape case is currently still under investigation by the police.
