Police hunt perpetrators of Molotov cocktail attack on lawyer's home in East Jakarta
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The East Jakarta Metro Police are hunting for the perpetrators who allegedly threw a bottle suspected to be a Molotov cocktail at the home of a lawyer in the Ciracas area, East Jakarta.
“Yes, we are still investigating. We are currently examining two witnesses regarding the alleged terror attack on a lawyer’s house,” said East Jakarta Metro Police Head of Public Relations AKP Made Budi on Saturday.
The incident, which targeted a victim named Sulardi, occurred on Wednesday (1/7) at around 2.30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time on Jalan Mustika Ratu Number 01, RT 05/RW 04, Ciracas, East Jakarta.
Upon receiving the report of the suspected attempted arson and vandalism, investigators immediately collected evidence and took statements from several witnesses to uncover the identities of the perpetrators.
Based on statements from witnesses Niman and Dadang, two individuals arrived at the scene riding a motorcycle together. Upon arriving in front of the victim’s house, one of the suspects threw a bottle, indicated to be a Molotov cocktail, towards the fence of the house.
“So the witnesses saw that the suspected perpetrator threw a bottle, indicated to be a Molotov cocktail, towards the fence of the victim’s house. The suspected perpetrators then fled the scene,” Budi explained.
Budi stated that the witnesses immediately checked the situation and reported the incident to the police. Officers conducted a crime scene investigation, secured a number of pieces of evidence, and are looking into the possibility of CCTV footage in the vicinity that could help identify the suspects.
As of now, the police have not concluded the motive behind the attack. The preliminary suspicion points towards attempted arson and vandalism, but all possibilities are still being investigated by the authorities.
