Jakarta — Police are pursuing the perpetrator of an acid attack against Andrie Yunus, a coordinator with the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS).

“We are conducting an investigation to identify the perpetrator through scientific investigation,” said Roby Heri Saputra, head of the criminal investigation unit at the Jakarta Central Police, when confirmed on Friday, 23 March 2026.

“The incident did occur. An official report from the victim has not yet been filed,” he stated.

Roby added that police have already conducted an examination of the crime scene.

Previously, Andrie Yunus was attacked and sprayed with acid by an unknown assailant. According to Dimas Bagus Arya, KontraS working committee coordinator, the attack resulted in serious injuries across Yunus’s body.

“Particularly on both hands, face, chest, and around the eyes,” Dimas stated in an official statement confirmed on Friday.

The incident occurred after a taping event concluded at approximately 23:00 WIB.

Following the acid attack, Andrie Yunus was immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment.

“From medical examination results, Andrie sustained 24 per cent burn injuries,” Dimas disclosed.

“Based on the information we have gathered, we believe this acid attack represents an attempt to silence critical voices in society, particularly human rights defenders,” Dimas emphasised.
