Police Hunt Gunman After Shooting at Canggu Bar Wounds Security Guard and Chinese National
Police in Badung, Bali, are hunting for a gunman following a shooting at a bar in the Canggu tourist area that left two people injured. The incident occurred on Friday, 17 July 2026, at around 2.50 a.m. local time. Badung Police Chief AKBP Joseph Edward Purba stated that the suspect fled Bali after the attack and a manhunt is underway. Police have cordoned off the crime scene. The shooting happened when a security guard, identified by the initials IMYM, 32, attempted to break up an argument between the suspected shooter and a 25-year-old Chinese national, identified as EA. The suspect then fired a shot, with the projectile penetrating the security guard’s left thigh before lodging in the left thigh of the Chinese national standing behind him. A joint team from the Badung Police and North Kuta Police have processed the crime scene and are examining CCTV footage. Police have also requested visum et repertum reports from the hospitals where the two victims are being treated. Evidence secured includes torn clothing, a pair of black-and-white shoes with bloodstains, black socks, a white shirt, two pairs of cut and torn black jeans, a piece of red plaid cloth, and a copper-coloured projectile. Authorities are focused on apprehending the suspect to determine the motive behind the shooting.
