Police Hunt Foreign National's Pickpocket in South Jakarta's Kuningan, Here Are the Characteristics

Police are still investigating the alleged pickpocketing of a foreign national in Karet Kuningan, Setiabudi, South Jakarta. Officers are currently hunting for the suspected perpetrator. “Patrol units are sweeping the area. The criminal investigation unit is searching for the perpetrator based on the description provided by the person who recorded the video,” said Setiabudi Police Chief AKBP Riyanto when contacted on Wednesday (1/7/2026). He noted that the suspect in the video was seen wearing a dark-coloured hoodie.

The victim has yet to file a report. Police are urging the victim to come forward to facilitate the investigation. “The victim has not made a report, and we have requested the video from the person who recorded it. However, the victim has not been identified and has not filed a report. Because this is a pickpocketing case, the victim may not have realised their belongings were taken,” he stated.

Police are also searching for evidence at the scene to further the investigation, including CCTV footage and witness statements. The public is encouraged to report any disturbances to security and public order via the police call centre at 110.

The pickpocketing incident occurred on Jalan HR Rasuna Said, Kuningan, Setiabudi, South Jakarta, this morning. The foreign national was pickpocketed while walking on the pavement near the Setiabudi LRT station and a pedestrian bridge staircase. It is reported that a group of people stole the victim’s wallet. The theft was witnessed by locals and recorded, with the video subsequently going viral on social media.
