Police hunt for suspect in fatal North Jakarta assault
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A joint team from the Jatanras and Resmob units of North Jakarta Metro Police, together with the Criminal Investigation Unit of Koja Police, is hunting a suspect believed to be involved in a group assault that caused the death of a victim identified as A (16) in the UKA complex, Tugu Utara subdistrict, Koja district, North Jakarta, in the early hours of Saturday (18 July).
“One suspected perpetrator with the initials FAI has been placed on the wanted persons list (DPO) and is still being pursued by officers,” said Koja Police Chief Commissioner Andry Suharto in Jakarta on Sunday.
He said investigators were continuing to develop the case, including hunting one remaining suspect still at large.
The joint team from the Jatanras and Resmob units of North Jakarta Metro Police, along with Koja Police detectives, moved swiftly to uncover the case.
“We will take firm action against any form of violence or brawls that disturb the community,” he said.
He urged parents to increase supervision of their children’s activities, particularly from nightfall into the early hours, so they do not become involved in unlawful acts.
“We call on the public not to be easily provoked into brawls, whether directly or through social media, as this can lead to criminal acts that endanger lives,” he said.
Previously, the joint team from the Jatanras and Resmob units of North Jakarta Metro Police, together with the Criminal Investigation Unit of Koja Police, had uncovered a case of suspected group assault and battery with sharp weapons following a brawl between groups of teenagers in the UKA complex, Tugu Utara subdistrict, Koja district, North Jakarta, in the early hours of Saturday (18 July).
“During the investigation, police named three people as suspected perpetrators: ANIAA (18), AAAJ (19), and AHIP (17),” said Koja Police Chief Commissioner Andry Suharto in Jakarta on Sunday.
The suspects were arrested at around 9pm on Saturday (18 July) by the joint team.
Police also secured several other individuals suspected of being connected to the incident for further questioning.
From the disclosure of the case, police seized a number of items of evidence, including several sharp weapons, a motorcycle, clothing believed to have been worn during the incident, and other evidence related to the case.
