Police hunt for real robber

JAKARTA (JP): The City Police have assigned a special team to hunt down an alleged bank robber to make amends for the wrongful shooting dead of an innocent man on Wednesday.

A mobile detective told reporters on Sunday the team had searched the house of the suspect, identified as Robi alias Yudi, 26, in the Gondrong area in Cipondoh, Tangerang, but the man had already escaped.

City Police chief Insp. Gen. Mulyono Sulaiman ordered the immediate capture of Robi after West Jakarta Police officers shot dead Yudianto on Jl. Raya Semanan in Kalideres. The officers said they thought Yudianto was Robi.

Yudianto was running after a group of thieves who had just stolen his TV set when the incident took place.

A Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital official said Yudianto, 31, a father of an eight-month-old infant, was shot in the head, between his eyebrows.

City Police detectives chief for general crimes, Adj. Sr. Comr. Tito Karnavian, said that internal affairs officers would question, among others, West Jakarta Police detective chief for violent crimes First. Insp. Hendri Fiuser and West Jakarta Police chief of detectives Comr. Syahardianto over the case. (ylt)
