The Yogyakarta City Police (Polresta Jogja) have identified the donor who financed the escape of suspects in the murder of a student, identified by the initials AA (18), near SMAN 3 Jogja. The individual, named Taufik, is now on the wanted list (DPO) along with three other fugitives.

Ps Kanit-3 of the Criminal Investigation Unit, Ipda Gara Kinarta Immanuel Purba, stated that Taufik played a role in the suspects’ flight to Cilacap by renting a car and providing funds for accommodation. ‘The main suspects who are DPOs are three people, one is a minor, and two are adults. The financier is an adult, named Taufik,’ Gara said at the Yogyakarta Police headquarters on Tuesday (7/7).

‘We call him a financier because he funded the rental car and the petrol needed for the journey to Cilacap, which is quite far. However, for their daily needs, they used their own pocket money,’ he added. Gara explained that Taufik assisted the perpetrators in fleeing to complicate the police investigation. ‘As far as we can see, the financier has no main occupation. He is a school graduate and his profile is still within the same social circle as the main suspects,’ Gara revealed.

The suspects who have been arrested include LTF (18), alias Lupek, YSF (18), alias Ucup, and a minor, identified as F (17), who is the main perpetrator. Another individual, SR (19), alias Septian or Tian, acted as the facilitator for the escape. Besides Taufik as the financier, three other main suspects remain at large.

‘(The three DPOs are) Martino, alias Tino, Maja, and Farel,’ Gara stated. ‘For the latest updates on the search, we are cooperating with the Mobile Investigation Unit (Resmob) and the Violent Crimes Unit (Jatanras) of the Regional Police. All information and additional details will be recorded,’ he continued. Gara added that if the DPOs are not captured by the time the investigation of the arrested suspects is complete, their case files will be separated.

The murder originated from a confrontation on the road. Police previously held a reconstruction of the murder of the student, AA (18), near SMAN 3 Jogja, which involved 19 scenes. The reconstruction began with the victim and the group of suspects crossing paths and ended with the suspect slashing the victim.

The reconstruction took place in the central courtyard of the Yogyakarta Police headquarters on Tuesday (7/7). Two main suspects, LTF (18), alias Lupek, and YSF (18), alias Ucup, were present, while another suspect, a minor identified as F (17), was replaced by a stand-in. ‘The ones who are still DPOs were replaced by stand-ins,’ explained Ps Kanit-3 Satreskrim Polresta Jogja, Ipda Gara Kinarta Immanuel Purba, after the reconstruction.

‘In total, there were about 19 scenes, starting from when the victim and the perpetrators met on Jalan Magelang to the crime scene in front of SMA Negeri 3, and finally the position where the victim fell in front of the HKBP Church,’ he added.

The reconstruction depicted the moment when the group of six suspects, riding three motorcycles, encountered the victim, who was riding with a witness on Jalan Magelang, Tegalrejo, on Sunday (17/5). ‘The motive, as we can see from the reconstruction, began with staring at each other and then progressed to challenging each other. However, this case did not involve any prior arrangement or a gang brawl,’ Gara explained.

Upon reaching the Pingit intersection, the victim’s motorcycle was cut off by a motorcycle ridden by fugitive suspect Farel, with Ucup as his passenger. A conversation ensued between Ucup and the victim. ‘Which school do you go to?’ Ucup asked. ‘None of your business!’ the victim snapped. ‘So, which school do you go to?’ Ucup retorted. ‘I don’t go to school!’ the victim replied. The exchange stopped when the traffic light turned green, and they both headed south.

At the DITLANTAS Polda DIY roundabout, the group and the victim parted ways, with the victim heading east. However, a crucial moment occurred when the victim looked back, waved his hand at the suspects, and shouted, ‘Come here!’ The suspects then turned around and chased the victim.

The chase ended at the crime scene in front of SMAN 3 Jogja. Suspect Lupek immediately got off his motorcycle after the victim stopped. Lupek, who had been carrying a sickle from the start, swung it directly at the victim’s chest. ‘In the scene, it was clear that the victim received one slash right on the upper right chest. As a result, while being transported to the hospital, the victim collapsed,’ Gara stated. ‘In fact, after being assisted by a church ambulance, the victim had already passed away by the time they arrived at the hospital,’ he concluded.
