Police hope Taiwanese murder suspect will arrive soon
JAKARTA (JP): The North Jakarta police are awaiting the return
of a Taiwanese man believed to have bludgeoned his girlfriend to
death here in Jakarta.
"We have been informed that the suspect is scheduled to arrive
here from Taiwan in the near future," deputy to head of the Crime
Investigation Unit at the North Jakarta police precinct, First
Lt. R. Rasyidi, told reporters here Wednesday.
Rasyidi, who is close to the investigation, said that the
suspect, identified only as YCS, 45, would come on his own
accord.
"We didn't arrange his coming. We only got the information
from somebody close to him," he said but refused to identify the
third party.
Late last week, the local police announced that they were
seeking assistance from the Indonesian National Central Bureau
(NCB) of Interpol to arrest the suspect. The suspect is believed
to have fled Indonesia after killing Ivone, 35, an owner of a
shoe production company.
Ivone, a divorcee with one child, is believed to have been
beaten to death by YCS on April 28 while they were inside her
car. They were reportedly on their way home from playing golf at
the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) complex.
The woman sustained severe wounds to her head and neck. After
the incident, Ivone was shocked and unable to speak.
After being treated at the intensive care unit, Ivone died
from her wounds on May 3.
Police said that YCS disappeared on the day when he first
brought his girlfriend to the hospital.
At that time, he reportedly called the victim's mother and
told her that Ivone had been seriously wounded after falling from
her car.
Illegal immigrant
According to police sources, YCS is an illegal immigrant,
Police strongly believe YCS could have one of two motives for
killing his girlfriend.
First, YCS had reportedly warned Ivone several times to end
the affair she was believed to be having with another man. Police
speculate that she might have ignored his warning.
Second, maybe YCS and Ivone might have had a scuffle over the
size of his share in the victim's company, which produces shoes
under the owner's name.
Police said YCS had invested money in her company after
failing to open up his own.
"We're just waiting for the suspect to hear his own alibi,"
Rasyidi said. (bsr)
