Two TransJakarta bus units collided on the elevated busway of Corridor 13 along the Swadarma stretch heading towards Cipulir, South Jakarta. Police have revealed that the crash was caused by one of the drivers falling asleep.

Head of the Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-directorate at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Ojo Ruslani, said the accident occurred at approximately 07:15 Western Indonesian Time. The collision involved a TransJakarta Bianglala bus driven by a man identified by the initial Y, travelling from Kebayoran towards Cipulir, and a TransJakarta Mayasari Bakti bus driven by a person identified as A, heading from Cipulir to Kebayoran.

“At precisely 07:15 WIB, Y admitted to falling asleep — he was drowsy — and the bus he was driving veered into A’s lane. It was possibly due to fatigue,” Ojo said in a statement on Monday (23/2/2026).

Ojo confirmed there were no fatalities in the incident. However, dozens of passengers were injured.

“Twenty-three passengers travelling from Cipulir to Kebayoran were injured. The bus was full as passengers were heading to work,” he added.

TransJakarta has spoken publicly following the incident, conveying its apologies over the collision that left a number of passengers injured.

“TransJakarta sincerely apologises for the accident involving operator fleet buses BMP 263 and MYS 17100 on Corridor 13 (Swadarma stretch towards Cipulir) this morning (23/2),” said TransJakarta’s Head of Public Relations and CSR, Ayu Wardhani, when contacted on Monday (23/2).

TransJakarta has evacuated passengers to the nearest stop. The exact number of passengers on board the buses and the full breakdown of injuries are not yet known, but TransJakarta has confirmed that injured passengers have been treated.

“Our primary focus at this time is ensuring the safety of our customers. Officers carried out a rapid evacuation to the nearest stop, and customers who sustained minor injuries have received medical attention,” she said.
