Police handle Ayu's family spat
JAKARTA: The police are looking into actress Ayu Ashari's complaint that she was physically assaulted by her Finnish husband, Teemu Yusuf Ibrahim.
"We will be reviewing her complaint, interviewing witnesses and collecting material evidence before we summon her husband," Jakarta city police spokesman Snr. Comr. Anton Bahrul Alam said on Wednesday.
Yusuf Ibrahim might be detained if the police have strong evidence he had committed the assault as Ayu, 31, claimed, and in line with Article 351 of the Criminal Code, Anton said.
The incident happened on March 8 at the couple's residence in South Jakarta. Anton declined to explain why Ayu filed her complaint only a few days afterwards.
With Teemu, Ayu, has two children, Sulaiman Atik Ibrahim, 3, and Mariam, 5. From her first marriage with rock star Djody, she has a son, Axel, 7.
A mix of Padang and Pakistani blood, Ayu won the 1990 Citra Award for best actress, and her role in the TV series Noktah Merah Perkawinan (Red dot in marriage) earned her the Vidia Award in 1996. --Antara
