Police hand over case files of E-Tilang phishing SMS blast to prosecutors
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate of Cyber Crime (Dittipidsiber) of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency has handed over the case files and suspects in the SMS blast phishing case, using a modus operandi resembling the official E-Tilang website that impersonates the Republic of Indonesia Attorney General’s Office, to public prosecutors (JPU). “The handover of suspects and evidence was carried out at the Grobogan District Prosecutor’s Office,” said Head of Sub-Directorate II of Dittipidsiber, National Police Criminal Investigation Agency, Commissioner Pol. Andrian Pramudianto, in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday. Blast phishing is a digital fraud method that sends SMS messages en masse to thousands of numbers simultaneously, containing fake links (phishing) to steal personal data or credit card information. He detailed that the four suspects handed over were RW, WTP, FN, and RJ. They are suspected of being involved in cyber fraud using the SMS blasting method containing phishing links resembling the official E-Tilang page. The case disclosure began with a public complaint received by Dittipidsiber of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency from the Republic of Indonesia Attorney General’s Office on 9 December 2025 regarding the circulation of several fake links impersonating government institutions. The report included 11 fake Attorney General links and five phone numbers used to distribute SMS blasts. During the investigation process, Dittipidsiber also found similar police reports in Palu, Central Sulawesi. One victim received an SMS containing a phishing link directing the victim to a fake E-Tilang site. From further investigation results, investigators found an additional 124 phishing links along with several phone numbers used in the cybercrime operation. In addition, investigators seized several pieces of evidence including computer devices, mobile phones, dozens of SIM box devices, SIM cards, and bank accounts suspected of being used to support the crime operations.
