Police: Hanania Travel Victims Estimated at 3,000, Losses Reach Rp95 Billion

The Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanudin, stated that the number of victims in the alleged fraud and embezzlement case involving Hanania Travel is estimated at around 3,000 people. This was conveyed during a public hearing with Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives and representatives of Hanania Travel victims at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 18 June 2026. “As conveyed earlier by the victims’ legal counsel, the potential for thousands of additional victims is very high, up to approximately 3,000,” Iman said. Meanwhile, Iman explained that based on the interim investigation results, the total losses related to this case have reached Rp95.22 billion. He noted that the amount of losses is likely to increase, as his team has opened a complaint post for Hanania Travel victims. “The initial estimate of the alleged losses, based on our current investigation results, is around Rp95.22 billion,” he said. “Meanwhile, the identified losses from pilgrims who have not received refunds amount to Rp27.52 billion, with the potential for the total value to be even larger,” he continued. During the session, Iman revealed that Hanania Travel had been experiencing financial problems since 2023. He disclosed that the company frequently operated a ‘robbing Peter to pay Paul’ scheme to finance its operations. “Since 2023, the management of PT Hasanah Tama Internasional or Hanania Group began experiencing payment difficulties, both for tickets and for mutawifs there. So they started using a robbing Peter to pay Paul scheme,” he said. Hanania Travel routinely used funds from new prospective pilgrims or subsequent groups to cover operational costs for previous groups, pay salaries, and fund promotional advertising.
