Jakarta Metropolitan Police have officially halted the investigation into the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS).

The handling of the case has now been transferred to the Indonesian National Armed Forces’ Military Police Centre (Puspom TNI) after no civilian involvement was found.

Head of Public Relations for Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the transfer was carried out because the authority to handle the case lies with the military institution.

“We reiterate that the case files have already been transferred. And at this point, the police investigators’ authority from Jakarta Metropolitan Police ends there,” Budi told reporters at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters on Wednesday (1/4/2026).

Nevertheless, the police have left open the possibility of resuming handling of the case if civilian involvement is discovered in future developments.

“Yes, certainly. But it’s not reopened; if it’s police jurisdiction, we handle it. As we mentioned earlier, there is police authority,” Budi explained.

Previously, the acid attack case on Andrie Yunus entered a new phase after four personnel from the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) were secured in connection with suspected involvement in the incident.

The four personnel are Captain NDP, First Lieutenant SL, First Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES. Developments in the case also led to the resignation of the Head of BAIS TNI, Yudi Abrimantyo, as a form of accountability.

Coordinator of KontraS Working Body, Dimas Bagus Arya, explained that the incident occurred after Andrie finished recording a podcast at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

After the incident, Andrie screamed in pain and fell off his motorbike. Local residents then provided assistance, while the perpetrator fled towards Jalan Salemba Raya.

In a wounded condition, Andrie briefly returned to his residence before being taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) for medical treatment in the early hours of Friday (13/3/2026).

Based on the examination results by the medical team, Andrie Yunus suffered injuries to his right eye and burns covering approximately 20 percent of his body due to the attack.

In its developments, Jakarta Metropolitan Police stated that they have transferred the case files to Puspom TNI after finding no civilian involvement in this case. Further handling is now fully under the authority of military apparatus.
