Police Haji Task Force names 32 suspects in 2026 Hajj fraud cases

The Sub-Task Force for Law Enforcement of the Haji and Umrah Task Force has carried out a series of enforcement actions during the 2026 Hajj period, resulting in the naming of 32 suspects.

“As of Monday (6/7), the Sub-Task Force for Law Enforcement of the Haji and Umrah Task Force has named 32 suspects, with the number of victims reaching 3,550 people,” said Brigadier General Mohammad Irhamni, Head of the Sub-Task Force, in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Irhamni, who also serves as the Director of Specific Crimes at the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim), stated that law enforcement was carried out from the Bareskrim level down to the Regional Police (Polda) level.

Several regional police forces recorded notable disclosures, including the Metro Jaya Regional Police, which investigated four police reports involving 3,000 victims. From these reports, one suspect was named, with victims’ losses reaching Rp95 billion.

Meanwhile, the East Java Regional Police named 13 suspects, with 145 victims and total losses amounting to Rp9.5 billion. The Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police named three suspects, with 282 victims and estimated losses of Rp8.8 billion.

He also reminded the public to be wary of promises of cheap Hajj and Umrah packages.

“The public must remain vigilant and not be tempted by offers of cheap Hajj and Umrah packages from irresponsible parties,” he said.
