Police Guard Demonstration at DPR Building Amidst Rain
A demonstration near the DPR/MPR RI building in Jakarta yesterday was marked by rain, but police officers on duty remained at their posts to secure the protest.
Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the officers prioritised a humanist and persuasive approach. He explained that the police were present to ensure the expression of opinions proceeded safely.
"Despite the rain, personnel continued to carry out their duties in the field. The police are here to serve and safeguard the aspirations of the community so that the expression of opinions can take place safely, orderly, and conducively," said Budi Hermanto on Tuesday (16/6/2026).
Additionally, police managed traffic around the location to prevent congestion caused by the public expression event. Protest participants were also urged not to be easily provoked during the demonstration, while road users were advised to adjust their routes when a demonstration is taking place.
"In principle, we respect the community’s right to express their opinions. However, we also invite all parties to jointly maintain security, order, and safety," he stated.
During the event on Monday (15/6), a number of police officers were seen on guard despite the rainy conditions. Some of the officers were observed not wearing raincoats while on duty.
