Police gear up to secure New Year's

BOGOR: The police will deploy about 3,000 personnel on New Year's Eve to secure Bogor, Puncak and the Bogor-Cianjur-Sukabumi road, a police officer said on Tuesday.

West Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Dadang Garnida said travelers would swarm the road, heading for the resort area of Puncak and Pelabuhan Ratu beach in Sukabumi.

"Many people will celebrate New Year's Eve in resort areas, therefore we have to employ extra security at that time."

Bogor Police deputy chief Comr. Rusdi Hartono said he would also deploy 110 undercover detectives and intelligence officers "to the areas usually used as venues for parties, such as Gunung Mas tea plantation". -- JP
