Police Form Task Force for Smuggling Law Enforcement
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has formed the Task Force for Law Enforcement or Smuggling Law Enforcement Task Force (Satgas Gakkum Penyelundupan) to tackle smuggling cases that harm the state.
“The task force for law enforcement against criminal acts of smuggling that harm the state’s wealth has been established through the order of Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo,” said Director of Special Economic Crimes at Polri’s Criminal Investigation Agency, Brigadier General Ade Safri Simanjuntak, in his statement in Jakarta on Thursday.
He explained that the formation of this task force represents Polri’s strong commitment to supporting one of President Prabowo Subianto’s Astacita visions, namely strengthening political, legal, and bureaucratic reforms, as well as eradicating corruption, drugs, gambling, and smuggling.
“As per the President’s directive to the Police Chief to enforce the law firmly against all forms of criminal acts that cause leaks in state revenues, financial losses to the state, or harm to state assets, including smuggling crimes, corruption crimes, and other criminal acts,” he said.
Ade stated that the operational targets of the Smuggling Law Enforcement Task Force include all forms of smuggling crimes, both illegal exports and illegal imports, including smuggling of natural resources and environmental products.
“Both smuggling carried out through customs areas with various modus operandi, such as under-invoicing, and smuggling carried out outside customs areas or what is commonly known as physical smuggling,” he said.
Ade added that the task force has also been established at the provincial police (Polda) level across Indonesia.
He emphasised that Polri’s step to enforce the law firmly against all forms of smuggling crimes is a concrete manifestation of Polri’s commitment to protecting the country’s economy.
“In providing protection for state or natural wealth, securing sources of state revenue, and firm law enforcement without discrimination to support national economic resilience, which is the foundation of state sovereignty,” he said.
