Police Foil Youth Gang Fight in North Jakarta
Jakarta — The Precision Pioneering Patrol Team of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s Community Order Directorate (Samapta) foiled a group of youths suspected of planning a street gang brawl (tawuran) in the Muara Baru district of North Jakarta during the early hours of Sunday morning.
“When our officers discovered a group of youths suspected of planning to engage in a brawl, they immediately took police action to prevent a wider security disturbance,” said Directorate Head Kombes Pol Wahyu Dwi Ariwibowo at a statement in Jakarta.
Ariwibowo explained that the patrol formed part of efforts to maintain public security and order throughout the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s jurisdiction. The patrol began at 00:30 WIK, targeting several vulnerable points prone to security disturbances in the North Jakarta area.
“During sweeping operations on Muara Baru Street, officers discovered a group of youths gathered with suspicious behaviour, prompting officers to conduct an inspection,” he said.
During the inspection, officers successfully secured three sickle-type sharp weapons suspected of being intended for use in the gang fight. The youths at the location were then taken into custody by officers to prevent potential security disturbances that could alarm residents.
Subsequently, the group of youths was brought to Penjaringan Police Station for further investigation. This action represents part of law enforcement efforts and a preventive measure to stop gang fights and street crime in the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s jurisdiction.
Jakarta Metropolitan Police Public Relations Head Kombes Polisi Budi Hermanto urged the public to promptly report any potential security disturbances in their neighbourhoods. “If members of the public witness or become aware of potential security disturbances, please report immediately through the police emergency service at Call Centre 110, which operates 24 hours a day,” he said.
The Precision Pioneering Patrol represents one of the police’s preventive measures in anticipating potential security disturbances, including gang fights that frequently occur during late night and early morning hours. The Jakarta Metropolitan Police continues to increase territorial patrol activities, particularly during high-risk hours, as a concrete step in providing a sense of security to residents and maintaining security stability in the capital region.
