Police Foil Smuggling of 12 Motorcycles Camouflaged as Furniture to Sumatra
Tambora Police have foiled the smuggling of 12 stolen motorcycles at the Cikupa Toll Exit. The motorcycles were being transported in a truck and carefully disguised with household furniture and children’s toys, intended for delivery to Sumatra.
Tambora Police Chief AKP Wahyu Hidayat explained that the case came to light following a tip-off received by the Tambora Police Criminal Investigation Unit on Tuesday (7/7/2026). Residents reported a truck suspected of carrying stolen vehicles that would be passing through the Tubagus Angke area in West Jakarta.
“Following up on the report, the Tambora Police Tiger Team immediately conducted an investigation. However, upon arriving at the location, the truck in question had already passed and entered the toll road,” AKP Wahyu said in a statement on Wednesday (15/7/2026).
Officers then tracked the vehicle and obtained information that it was on the Cikupa Toll Road. Without delay, the team pursued and managed to stop the truck at the Cikupa Toll Exit.
“From the inspection, we found one truck carrying 12 motorcycles. All the vehicles were stacked and disguised with various household items and children’s toys. According to the driver’s statement, the motorcycles were planned to be sent to Sumatra,” he explained.
Wahyu revealed that the network deceived officers by camouflaging the truck to appear as if it was transporting household goods such as brooms, buckets, cupboards, and children’s toys. From the outside, the truck appeared to be carrying only household equipment.
“This was an attempt by the perpetrators to deceive officers and the public during the journey so that the actual cargo would not be visible,” he said.
After all the vehicles were secured, investigators immediately examined the chassis and engine numbers and matched them with vehicle theft report data. Preliminary examination results indicate that two motorcycles have been confirmed as stolen, based on police reports in the Kebon Jeruk and Cengkareng police jurisdictions.
“Meanwhile, the other 10 motorcycles are still in the process of identification to ascertain their origins,” he added.
In this case, police have detained a driver with the initials RA, who remains a witness. Police have also named a man with the initials TA as a wanted suspect, believed to have played a role in the shipment of the vehicles.
